Don’t you just hate it when your hair straighteners just die on you and within the same couple days your hair dryer blows up on you.
The past couple of weeks have been utter hell for me, ( and this may be the underlying self conscious reason for the little blogging I have done recently – sorry lovelies!) my hair, to say the least, is frizzy and very hard to maintain! Especially in this indecisive Cornish weather I am having to endure over Easter! I have been attempting to use argan oil products to flatten the frizz but I hate the oily texture and end up washing it straight out!
So, thanks to my wonderful mum, I had an impulse purchase…
Boots travel hair dryer at 9.99 it was a bargain, I don’t want anything fancy just something that will blow hot air at my hair and with a 5 year guarantee you definitely can’t go wrong… Don’t worry I’ve have framed the receipt!
My new Nikki Clarke straighteners though are what I am here to rave about! They are super quick to heat up to a perfect temperate of 240 degrees on the max setting, with three others to choose from.
Just to show how good they actually are I have done a before and after shot (putting my dignity on the line 🙃).
To achieve a dead straight look that’ll last all day I straighten my hair in three layers, combing as I go in order to get rid of any static making my hair appear frizzy.
The straighteners come with the usual accessories; a large brush, a comb and two styling clips. 💁🏼
Honestly, after the amount of lipsticks I’ve tried and failed to be impressed by, after all of the colours that just weren’t right for my face, I think I have finally fallen in love with the perfect lipstick. Velvet Teddy by Mac Cosmetics is utterly beautiful. A soft matte brown which could almost be seen as slightly purple in some lights is a very popular choice of lipstick by Mac lovers, I was suggested it by one of my friends at uni a few weeks back but with the daring prices of Mac makeup I convinced myself to hold back until I new I had found the perfect shade, in heinsight I should of listen to her at first! It wasn’t until recently that I discovered that my house mate happens to have the exact shade… So of course I tried it, and guess what my next purchase is going to be? – As soon as I have finished my essay research that is!!
If you aren’t as in love with Macs Velvet Teddy as I am and feel slightly weary of spending a daring £15.50 (well worth it though!) try NYX lip Lingerie lipstick in either Teddy for a more neutral brown approach to Macs Velvet Teddy, or if on the other hand you like the purpleness of Macs lipstick go for Embellishment, it has a gorgeous, almost mauve, take on brown!
Have any of you guys tried Velvet Teddy? I recommend it to anyone and everyone!
Even on a Saturday like today, a Saturday that my amazing boyfriend has been working since 7 this morning and won’t come home till 10 tonight, a Saturday where I spend sat in my room with my head in multiple books, just shy of 100 tabs open on google and all of my note books spread…well, all over the room… I still find time to put my face on 🙂
You know, just in case I fancy one of those nasty 35p energy drinks I use (only for emergencies I tell myself) to keep myself engaged with my work or a bar of my favourite Dairy Milk chocolate to give myself some added motivation (yes, food is a huge – and unfortunately my main – distraction) but I like to go for a simple, classy and tamed makeup look.
Today I went neutral;
After my sacred pre-makeup routine I applied only a thin layer of foundation, on one of my tracksuit days I don’t tend to contour, I will however apply a small amount of matte highlighter to illuminate my cheeckbones.
Using the matte pink eyeshadow in the middle of No7s colour perfecting trio in Good Earth I filled my entire eyelid, I then blended the pale matte brown on the bottom of the three colours into the crease of my eyelid to create a slight smokey eye.
I added a really thin eyeliner and used a brown mascara for tinting my eyelashes!
Lastly to add some colour I used Max Factors Lipfinity in Just Bewitching double ended lip stain and gloss, it lasts for a super long time and never wears off! – it’s my ‘long day at uni’ go to!!
To shape my lips and contain the colour I used No7 lip liner in nude, it adds such a beautiful finish, making my lips look neat and sweet!
Have a beautiful weekend.
Wish me luck with my work
It would be super handy if you guys could vote on your go-to handbag on my Twitter poll, it’s for research for a feature piece I’m writing at Uni – Thanks 🙂
I particularly like these eyeshadows as they blend super easy!! Next I used the lighter purple on the main part of my eyelid, slightly blending into the dark purple.
I also added a touch of the shimmer white to the very centre of my eyelid, this is to add highlights.
It may seem outrageous but go with me…
To create my ombré purple lips I used revlon balm stain in cherish devotion, a bright baby pink, I then used a liquid pen eyeliner in black (I usually have a cheap one especially for my lips) and literally colour from the inner corners of my mouth, being careful not to leave harsh lines!
Using the same lip stain I blend the eyeliner on my lips to create the purple lip! 👄
I also added a thin liquid eyeliner to finish my look 🙂
As you may have noticed blue has overtaken (and in particular lined the eyes) of many beautiful faces so far in 2016 – Diane Von Furstemburg literally flooded the runway with blue eyes, each model sporting it in a completely unique way;
Gigi Hadid, Jourdan Dunn and even Kendall Jenner strutted with cold eyes and beautiful butterfly inspired gowns…
I have been bed bound with bug for the past few days so today I decided to take part in the blue phenomenon that’s taking over to give myself a pick-me-up!
Here’s how I did my subtle everyday approach;
To start with I applied a generous amount of my No7 mini eyeshadow in 05 Island Sea to base the eyelid with colour – paying most attention to the outer corners of my eyelids and close to my lash line…
… I then worked in the darkest shade of my Bourjois Nude eyeshadow palette into the very outer corner of my eyelid bringing it slightly up and in the my eyelid crease.
I add brown to make my look more neutral and subtle, they are complementary colours… The darker the blue you use the darker the brown you complement it with!!
To finish off I added a thick black eyeliner with a bold, definite flick to reveal a striking look!!
Have you tried incorporating blue into your look yet???
Once again I just want to mention how great it is to be at home, (however much I love being in Southampton studying Fashion Journalism and living an independent life with my boyfriend, Lewis) there’s just something about it; my own bed, my mum and dad, my three cats and a full fridge of food!!
My mum treated Lewis, my dad and I to burgers tonight from The Meat Counter… I don’t mean pathetic little burgers that may as well of come from McDonals, these were huge messy American style burgers, and damn they were yummy!!!
After a huge greasy meal (however delicious) my skin tends to feel oily and a bit dirty so instead of my usual cleansing routine I like to exfoliate and cleanse to really clean my skin.
I love Soap and Glory products and products by Simple, due to my combination (and very delicate) skin I find they are particularly kind to my skin yet very effective!
Its all about find the right brand of skin products that suit you’re own skin; once you’ve found a brand stick with it for a while to give it a chance then make your judgement on how successful it is.
Making sure to thoroughly wash my hands first (to avoid dirt being spread) I wash my face then use the cleansing facial wash to remove any excess makeup residue left on my face. This works best when applied with cotton wool and left to soak in for a minute then washed away with clean warm water.
After cleansing I moisturise using Simple Kind To Skin Night Cream (obviously using the day cream if I’m doing my routine in the morning) this just loosens my skins and hydrates it before exfoliating.
I love Soap and Glorys Rub Your Nose In It exfoliating face mask, needing only a tiny amount me and my boyfriend can’t get enough of it! It’s amazing at deep cleaning and getting rid of dry skin, and leaves your face so soft!
To finish off I rinse my face with cold water to ensure my pores are closed so that no dirt can enter and apply another small amount of moisturiser.
